Default Warranty question

was jsut looking at the ordering process/prices and noticed the price of the 150 day warranty, if you dont mind me asking, why so much? a grand for 150 days seems a little over the top for a product with great reviews? maybe im missing something?

thanks
vandy

The free warranty was the death of DFA. There's no way of knowing how a person will use / abuse this conversion and ultimately that price reflects a doomsday possibility. Regardless of how great their product is, no small company can lose money on warranty stuff and survive.

I wouldn't worry about any warranty honestly. If something major goes wrong, chances are it was your fault anyways. As long as you can produce good clean oil, you really should have no issues.

It's priced that way intentionally so that people have the option, but no one will choose it.

Snake beat me to it... the humongous/generous/fantastic warranty was the death of DFA...

DFA stood behind the product so ferociously that it gave its life for not just the "infant mortality" issues (the "common sense" warranty stuff, where if it fails right outta the box, it's covered)... but also the replacement of items that had been abused and the items that SHOULD have been classified as "wear items" used beyond their designed life cycle.

Pressure switch, for example, has a design life of 500,000 cycles... bounce around on your tired filter for long enough, and you'll eat that up in just a few months. (Yes, I know, pressure switch carried its own problems before the diode issue fix was found).

Pump warranty (a topic that can (and has) filled VOLUMES of posts on this site) was a whole other issue... pumps were coming back left and right on the DFA front due to all sorts of issues... (ranging from abuse to design flaws/design oversight from DPP).

Over time, increased warranty offerings to settle the customer base resulted in the base price being slowly ratcheted up to the point where it was costing between $500-600 for a replacement pump...

(Today, Scorpion is offered as a rebuildable pump solution, carries an optional $50 2-year warranty),and the base price (including diode, wear plate, screws, and all O-rings) is just under $400... ).

I'd have to double-check for specific numbers... but in the 2 years (has it really been 2 years? Holy Dairy Queen) I've only ever sold a dozen "warranty" coverages on the Scorpion motor itself... and 3 or 4 45-day warranty coverages on the full kits.

FWIW.

Jay

Makes sense. I figured it was something based on customer faults. I wouldn't doubt there are guys that buy get installed and run with no background on how to run/maintain a system and expect free replacement parts

Thanks for the clarification

There were guys pumping used WVO right out of the dumpster and into their tanks to run... can't imagine why their pumps weren't lasting long eh?
