Default Culture Award... August 2012

It's no secret that if you scan the forums, you can pretty easily (statisically?) boil the solutions to problems down into a few areas:

Vent Tube
Filter
Pre-screen
Pump/Pressure
Filtering
etc...

I'm looking for a catchy-phrase/acronym that we can toss around here on the forums, and start to put into the general "collective"... so that when we have new folks wander in and say "huh?" we can summarize the troubleshooting down into a single instruction (and link)....

... (and... when the problem gets more advanced, someone can post "Ok, I've done the _________ test, and I still have the problem)....

So... culture award challenge... post up your solution/acronym, what it stands for (so I can see how inclusive it is)...

No need to get wordy about the troubleshooting... I can do all that... I'm just looking for the collective brainpower.

$50 award given at the end of August... final winner chosen by me... blah blah blah blah...

Jay

OK Jay, I'll give it a shot. Can I have more chances?

How about the WAFFLE test?

W = Wvo or Water (reference to oil quality)
A = Actuator (pressure switch)
F = Fuel pressure
F = Fuel filter (donaldson; pre-screen)
L = Light (green)
E = Evacuation (purge cycle)

OMEGA

O = Oil issues, is oil PH and solid, clean, mixed with any diesel
M = mechanical stuff to check, purge valves, check valves, et.
E = electrical, grounds, power, etc.
G = gauge pressure readings, this is self explanitory
A = air leaks, also self explanitory

FTW

Here's what I have for the most common things our systems boil down to and the advice given...

(In no order)

Pump - is the pump turning?

Nose - ignore the green light, sniff the tail pipe... does your nose tell you that you are/are not burning grease?

Vent Tube - too often this tub is blocked, and the pump can't work against a vacuum.

Filter - both pre-screen and fuel

Fuses -both under the hood and under the dash, as well as the D2 fuel pump fuse and the stock customer access fuse.

Air - air getting into your system on the vacuum side can spell disaster for your system trying to build pressure. When air bubbles hit, it makes your pump "burble" and sound like a piece of gravel is being tossed around in there.

Relays - are your relays providing power?

Fuel Mixture - Your FASS or Scorpion pump may be struggling to build pressure if your D2/WVO blend goes over 50/50

Temperature - is your system getting up to temperature?

Prime - this is much more a Vegiram issue than anything else.. if you run your tank to EMPTY, sometimes the lower-pressure VegiRam has a hard time pushing air out of the way to "move" the fuel trapped in your filter.

Check Valves - diesel in your WVO? Manifold check valve. WVO in your diesel? Engine check valve(s).

Obviously, many of these things can be combined into single categories...
