Default Trash Pumps?

Hey-

Well after last season on the Jersey Shore collecting my 1400+ gallons with my tiny fil rite I want a faster way, much faster! My drums are about 100' from the truck so I would bring a red top optima to the drums and pump the oil out to the truck at like 4 gallons a minute. I would usual collect 250 gallons at a time so a gas powered pump seems a better bet, but the smallest one I could find was 52 GPM for 130$. I think this is a little overkill but for the price I would do it to save time this year. Anyone ever see a smaller one than what Harborfrieght sells?

I got a 3" 165 GPM and wouldn't go any smaller. I can fill my totes in no time. Northern tool does have a trash pump that's 50 GPM, but it runs on 110

I have a Honda 4stroke 1" water pump I use for collecting. Not cheap, but extremely reliable and very effective. It is very small and light, and not terribly loud when primed and pumping... Probably 20gpm at 60-70*, faster when warmer/slower when colder.

It has a 1.25" 'pool hose' to a 1" PVC pipe on suction (w/valve to maintain prime!) and I use a 1.5" discharge directly to bottom of tote when collecting at home. On the road, I use garden hose on discharge and have used 150ft before!!

I also have a 3" trash pump. I'm all gimped up after breaking my back, so it is too cumbersome for me to load and unload and when I used the 3" suction hose - OMG did that sucker move oil! 275gal in under 2 min's! It was terrifing collecting - any mess would have been BIG. I loaned it to a friend and he has 2" hoses with a 1" 'wand' on suction end I think. Should be much more safer/managable this way - we'll see! I think a 2" pump would be just right...

I swear the vacuum sucker is KING though. By far the safest, cleanest AND fastest way to collect. Maybe the cheapest method too, if you are resourceful! (free tank, free a/c or refrig compressor - just buy fittings and hose!)

That little guy is cool! Now if Harbor Frieght only made one that small, i beat it would be cheap. I think ill just go with a 1.5" or 2" pump, hope i don't make a mess!

now I have that exact same honda small trash pump and I have only gotten it to work once. The one time it worked I had to fill up the hoses with the fill-rite first.
I have a ball valve and wand on it just like yours with just a straight discharge hose.
Should I add a valve to the discharge side as well?
the one time I got it to work it was great. I would just like that to happen again sometime soon

I ended up buying the harbor junk 2 1/2" pump and it has self primed after the first use. It seems the residual oil helps get it going again. Happy pumping...

I picked up one of the $40 Harbor Freight water pumps a while back and so far it's worked like a champ. I was really surprised to be honest. Wasn't expecting much for so little cash.
