My van was stolen in San Francisco at 5:42 a.m. on Wednesday Oct 29 -- Please let me know if you see it, or parts, somewhere online or on the streets.
You know what to do
It seems like it was a professional theft, so the plates, VIN and perhaps the color or other features will look different when resold. THANKS !

Thieves suck balls! Thats a kool ass van man, I hope they can find it and the crooks who took it.
FWIW, I am getting GPS trackers to hide on my superduties.
I'm looking at this one.

If I had a rare quiggly van, I dang sure would have put some kind of anti theft/gps on it. Hindsight...

Default Tracking Device

Thanks Clay,
Yeah, the alarm and the ignition blocking that comes with Fords isn't worth it's weight.
That tracking device is now on my shopping list if the cops find my van or for the next one.
$10/year is much less than I thought, that's brilliant.
Curious if this also works if I go on a trip to Central/South America.
Wonder if the crooks now have detectors to find and trash such devices.

CampVan,
Damn man that sucks for sure!
I hope you are lucky enough to get it back and it is still in good condition.
Wish I had more words of encouragement and comfort but sadly I haven't.
I hope it all works out.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune CampVan. I hope the cops find it and get it back to you.

I talked to a guy while waiting in line at the DMV who repos vehicles that he leases and he said that he places his GPS units up in the windshield pillar if at all possible and then mounts a dummy/decoy GPS underneath the dash. The better thieves( if you can call it that) usually know where/what to do to disable your theft deterrent systems. I did see a homemade disable system on the FTE ( i think it was done by SpringerPop )site a few years back that looked pretty good.
I want to get something on mine as I have put a lot of time/money to my Ex.

Unhappy Anti-theft devices

Thanks, yes, who knew they are this much in demand. (Quote from a dismantler I surveyed today: "Whow, diesel 4x4 camper van -- I would have stolen that one myself ...").
My next van will probably have:
  • multiple GPS tracking devices,
  • at least two kill switches (on start, and timed),
  • fuel cut-outs (timed and remote),
  • 3rd party independent-battery based sirens
feel free to add . . .

sorry to hear about the van. I hope you get it back, but all too often even if you do, you will hope you didnt. I HATE thieves. Thats a bad ass van too. sadly it will probobly be stripped and parted. Id imagin that would be a hard one to offload, unless it was taken to messico.

I like some of the ideas that people have said as far as a gps system. It sucks its gotten to a point in our society that we even have to think about something like this.

I hope you get some word soon

Smile Recovered on Nov 15

Thanks Everybody for the great empathy and for keeping your eyes peeled:

SFPD found my van, repainted, without ladder/foglights and with fake license plates.
I'll pass on more info after conclusion of the ongoing investigation.

Now there'll be a bit of work to do to bring her old beauty back, and a good time for your detailed inputs on kill-switches, LoJack alternatives, and other anti-theft devices

Soooooo glad this didn't end worse!!!

I have a customer who lost a truck in S. Fla and is asking about theft mitigation for his replacement truck. I'll be looking at no-start devices and tracking stuff for him.
