Default WVO Antioxidant

I've been trying to purchase Vegstable from Frybrid/AES for quite some time now with no luck. Does anyone know of any other antioxidant manufacturers/suppliers? My google fu must be weak because I can't locate any alternatives to the Vegstable.

I looked at this product when they first introduced it but never got any. It can't 'hurt' anything however I'm not sure how effective it is for WVO. Antioxidants are only 1/2 the solution - anti-chelating agents are the other 1/2...

http://www.eastman.com/Products/Page...list=Chemicals

'Back in the day' there was alot of experimentation with copious amounts of BHT and citric acid - the same ingredients the VO suppliers add to mitigate polymerization for acceptable fryer life. I forget the details, but I don't think this worked out well enough to be a solution.

I bought a batch of VegStable from Frybrid and used it for my oil that was sitting over the winter. It took me about three months from payment to receiving it. I paid for another batch in January and keep emailing them every two weeks - I still don't have it in hand. Most people say the antioxidant isn't necessary - especially if you keep the cleaned oil in a cool, dark place in topped-up containers. But I don't have that in the summer, so that's why I wanted to use it. I'll let you know if I come up with an alternative.

I agree. I have used oil that is well over a year old with no issues. However it must be absolutely clean and dry.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm pretty sure all of my stored WVO is dry (or at least it passed HPT after final filtration). OUr wvo is stored at low temps, so it should be good to go.

Looks like this is a great alternative at 1/2 the price of VegStable: http://www.utahbiodieselsupply.com/o...stabilizer.php. I'm betting it'll actually ship when it's paid for, too.

I've ordered a few small things from them (mainly barrel strainers) always shipped quick.

Thanks for the feedback, I have no experience with poly thus far but would like to throw some anti ox in my supply as a precaution. I do have some veg that I stored in an old AFFF barrel that stinks like AFFF.
