The heater jacket wasn't intended to add any additional heat to the system. The heater jacket was intended to "thaw" out the grease in your filter when you are first warming up the truck.

After grease is flowing, the heater jacket isn't really adding any additional heat to the system.

5 years ago, (back when the V0 analog brain was still giving hissie fits), I just ripped out the heater jacket and put an additional 3' or so of coolant line in my system... I just spliced it into my return line before it went back up to the engine.

I looped it 3 times around the fuel filter... and after a few heat cycles, it keeps its "springy" coil shape.

Changing the filters is not an issue... working with the coils of coolant line isn't really any more of a pain than working with that heater jacket.

Over the years, I've had my X down to -10* or so... it hasn't been an issue.

I'll snap a picture of what I've got here over the weekend and post it. It's really anti-climactic. No black magic or anything.
