Default Do the Check Valves ever go bad?

I have replaced every component on my manifold to get my V3 to work and still I can't. I just ordered the SSB to see if that will give me more information to help me troubleshoot what is wrong. I'm curious to know more about the check valves that are installed on the engine. I remember when I put the one thinking that it was just a hole, and wondered how it worked to keep fuel from backing up. I didn't see any mechanical device in it to stop the flow of fuel. Does anyone know? Also, do they go bad. I'm trying to decide if I should replace them. They are the original valves from my install in 2008. Lastly is there a cheaper place to get them? I don't want to spend $32 on these little things.
TIA

Default Check valves go bad

They allow diesel to flow out of d2 tank and block Wvo from getting into d2 tank

I do sell a check valve relocate kit on my veggiegarage.com site. Much larger and easier to get to. The check valves on engine stop veggie from flowing into the diesel fuel filter bowl.
