Default WVO Exhaust Rotting Out Muffler?

Hi folks,

Wondering if anyone has had any experience with their muffler rotting or rusting out due to WVO exhaust? My stock muffer rotted out shortly after I converted the truck to WVO. I replaced the stock muffler with a Donaldson (Nelson) muffler (the kind they put on big rigs). The Donaldson started out nice and quiet but now it's so loud I can only assume it is either plugged up or rotted out from the inside. There is no sign of rot or rust on the outside.

Also, wondering what you all recommend for a quiet (yes, quiet) muffler for the Cummins. I use the truck for long distance family travel so the quieter the better. I don't tow so not too worried about power loss.

Thanks!

Alex

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

My muffler and cat came off almost immediately after I got it. I recently put one back on (1 year ago or so) so I cant comment on your issue.

I have over 100k miles on my Ex with the stock muffler. Still sounds the same. Also, my Mercedes has about 200k on veggie with the original muffler (324k on car). I don't think the wvo is rotting your muffler. Maybe something else.

You live up north, my guess is wintertime road chemicals are eating the truck.

Stock exhaust on a PSD is stainless steel.

I have a friend near Seattle with an '06 Cummins and probably 100k miles on biodiesel. He may have an aftermarket exhaust though - I'll ask him!

North is a big geographic term.

I grew up on the Great Lakes and the salt flew first sign of snow. (I bet the north easter's are gonna love the new F-150 aluminum body)

But the rocky mountain north is gravel only. Our live streams can't handle the Salt or Chemicals (Salt Lake City Excluded, of course).

That's why our trucks are so rust free, but they do get used as 4x4 rigs often. I had 180k on my OBS exhaust when I went for 4" turbo back and I bet could've gone another 180k Probably around 30k vege at that time.

Okay, thanks all. Sounds like no relation to the WVO exhaust.

Anyone have any recommendations on a muffler that will quiet the truck down?

Alex
