Default $3.85 a gal for WVO!!!!!!

I just got off the phone with a local business that picks up wvo. I was inquiring about buying WVO from them. They acted like it would be a pain to just sell 200-300 gal at a time, since they usually fill rail cars and tankers. Then he quoted me $.50 a pound for wvo. That comes out to be $3.85 a gal!!

you need to form a WVO co-op, and a good "back-up" supplier to cover your own ass. I get 50% of my fuel for free, and purchase to rest for $1.00-$1.25 a gallon dirty which I centerfuge myself. I cost average my gallons and everyone is happy, my ace up my sleeve is a guy that sells 1 micron centerfuged oil about an hour from me for $1.80 a gallon. The name of this game is networking, to hell with the renders...............greasy

It's up that high already? About a month ago it was $2.87/gallon.

Even $2.87 is ridiculous.

No doubt. I'd be dumpster diving if I had to pay that much.

I think I'm going to have to start offering to pay for oil. I'm coming up empty in a lot of areas now. Getting harder to get it.

A chinese place i have a barrel at hit me up last month for money. They said a rendering outfit offered to pay them for it and she told them she already had me collecting. She asked if i would pay what they offered, I asked how much did they offer and she said 20 bucks every 3 months. Hell yeah I'll give you that...I paid her and then drove off with 200 dollars worth of oil...lol. I get 50 gal. there in 4 weeks usually and its pretty nice oil.

At $3.85/gallon for waste oil, what is being done with it? I mean that's practically the cost of buying diesel fuel!?!?

WVO goes a lot of places: I started to make a list but it's easier to copy and paste.

Vegetable oils are used as an ingredient or component in many manufactured products.

Many vegetable oils are used to make soaps, skin products, candles, perfumes and other personal care and cosmetic products. Some oils are particularly suitable as drying oils, and are used in making paints and other wood treatment products. Dammar oil (a mixture of linseed oil and dammar resin), for example, is used almost exclusively in treating the hulls of wooden boats. Vegetable oils are increasingly being used in the electrical industry as insulators as vegetable oils are not toxic to the environment, biodegradable if spilled and have high flash and fire points. However, vegetable oils are less stable chemically, so they are generally used in systems where they are not exposed to oxygen, and they are more expensive than crude oil distillate. Two examples are FR3 by Cooper Power and BIOTEMP [1] by ABB. Midel 7131 by M & I materials is a synthetic tetraester, like a vegetable oil but with four fatty acid chains compared to the normal three found in a natural ester, and is manufactured by Fischer esterification. Tetraesters generally have high stability to oxidation and have found use as engine lubricants. Vegetable oil is being used to produce biodegradable hydraulic fluid[4] and lubricant.[5]

One limiting factor in industrial uses of vegetable oils is that all such oils eventually chemically decompose, turning rancid. Oils that are more stable, such as ben oil or mineral oil, are preferred for some industrial uses.

Vegetable-based oils, like castor oil, have been used as medicine and as lubricants for a long time. Castor oil has numerous industrial uses, primarily due to the presence of hydroxyl groups on the fatty acid chains. Castor oil, and other vegetable oils which have been chemically modified to contain hydroxyl groups, are becoming increasingly important in the production of polyurethane plastic for many applications. These modified vegetable oils are known as natural oil polyols.
