I always take my tool kit with all the basics.
Metric and SAE wrenches, socket in 1/4" 3/8 and 1/2" drive with all the drivers and extensions. Screwdrivers, allens, plyers, dikes... And that's about it. I have a flat case "cresent" set that fits well in my toolbox/tank.

Pick up one of those filter wrenches that look like channel locks; these are the cat's azz when busting loose a nasty filter. Sears has 'em for ~ $20
