It does sound like a faulty purge valve. Not completely closing. As it sounds like it opens fully when you hit the purge cycle manually.

As long as the veggie pump is running you should be able to burn it. Unless for some reason it's too thin for your pump.? If that's the case just siphon it out and put veg back in.
