You should be using a 200 or 400 micron strainer to pour into the pre-barrel which will catch anything that might screw up your pump. Plumb it 4" off the bottom. I simply take the barrel once a year...

As far as the Tote, build a platform out of 4" post and elevate it above the still if you have room that way. I almost did this to leave more floor space under it in my shop and i may still do this....
